How does caffeine affect my body over time?

Drinking caffeine stimulates your brain to fire neurons, triggers your pituitary glands, and results in their secreting a hormone that tells your adrenal glands to produce adrenalin.

When the adrenal high wears off later, you may feel fatigue, or find yourself irritable, confused, or suffering from a headache. Which, of course, naturally makes you want another dose of caffeine!

Keeping your body flooded with adrenaline does have a deleterious effect over time. Doctors call it "caffeinism." Basically, by continuing to force the adrenal glands to secrete adrenaline, even when they are taxed, they wear out, causing you to feel more and more tired.

If you have to drink several cups of coffee just to stay awake, or if you feel fatigued, irritable, or suffer from mood swings or depression when you don't drink caffeine, you may have severely depleted adrenal glands!
