Stress Management: Easy, Simple Ways to Eliminate Stress

With the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, suffering from stress is inevitable. Between managing work, family and friends, some people have no time left for themselves. However, by taking a little time out of your day to focus on yourself, you can greatly reduce your stress. Those who suffer from stress and don't properly treat it put themselves at risk for developing health problems, such as hypertension and heart attacks.

Therefore, use our tips for managing daily stress so you can live a happier, healthier life. Keep in mind that our stress management tips fall into two categories, reducing demands on yourself and taking care of yourself.

Decrease the Demands on Your Life

Before you can start properly taking care of yourself, you will need to create more time in your schedule for you and your needs. Here are some easy tips for opening up your schedule in order to eliminate the stress in your life:
  • Be optimistic: Reduce your negative thoughts by focusing on the good things in your life that make you happy. Keeping a positive attitude reduces the energy you expend on being angry, upset or stressed out.

  • Create a strong support system: Surround yourself and spend time with loving people who care about you. Rid yourself of negative relationships that take away your energy, cause you to be pessimistic and are a source of stress in your life.

  • Identify and avoid energy drains: Go over your daily schedule and note the activities that waste your time and irritate you. While you may not be able to eliminate all of these activities from your schedule, you can likely cut some of them out to improve your energy and give you more time for yourself.

  • Learn to say "No": Many of us are so busy in our daily lives because we feel obligated to do everything that comes across our paths. The most important thing to remember is that you don't have to commit to every plan or apparent obligation that comes your way. By saying "no" to some plans, you can carve some time out of your day for yourself.

Take Care of Yourself to Eliminate Stress

Although you may think that your daily life is so busy that you don't have time for yourself, thoroughly examine your daily schedule. Go over each task that takes significant time, noting where you can shave off time so that you have a few moments for yourself. In these moments, try to do any or all of the following to reduce and possibly eliminate stress in your life:
  • Eat healthy: While many of us savor the flavors of fatty, greasy, sugary foods, eating too much of these foods causes you not only to gain weight but also to feel lethargic. By eating healthy, you can increase your daily energy, improve your health and reduce your feelings of stress.

  • Exercise: Exercising for just 30 minutes each day increases your body's production of adrenaline and endorphins, two substances that reduce pain and lift mood. Similarly, exercising is a good way for some to work out their aggression and pent up stress.

  • Relax and meditate: Take five or 10 minutes out of everyday to clear your head of all thoughts, close your eyes and practice deep breathing. No matter where you are, make this mini-meditation ritual part of your daily routine. Consistently practicing it is a good way to deal with and let go of your daily stresses.
By working on both your internal and external environments, you can successfully eliminate stress from your life!
