So many people take proper mental health for granted. The general idea is, "As long as I'm sane, I need not worry." The problem with this is that the minute you're not sane, it's already too late to start worrying.
Of course that doesn't mean you should start worrying about your mental health. Worrying doesn't do you any good, and it may push you over the edge, which is not where you want to be. Instead, take precautions to keep your mind healthy and active.

Things such as excess stress and addiction are not good for the mind. Stress causes you to worry and is detrimental to your mental health. You start worrying and pretty soon, things are blown out of proportion. That only causes you to worry more, which causes you to blow things out of proportion, and so on.

With addictions, your mind is so preoccupied with whatever you're addicted to, that it makes performing other tasks extremely difficult or impossible. Addictions negatively affect almost every aspect of your life.

So how to preserve your mental health? The most important thing to do is relax. It allows your mind to rest and rejuvenate, so that you can tackle all the trials and tribulations of life.
